Diversity CoachingCoaching is one of the most effective developmental tools available today. It consists of a series of conversations that will enhance your development and significantly improve your job performance. Diversity Coaching is a 'one-on-one' educational experience that will improve your ability to communicate, resolve conflict, and solve problems in culturally diverse settings. Through the coaching experience, I introduce a core set of diversity competencies that are essential for becoming a Culturally Competent Professional. These competencies include self-awareness, diversity knowledge, multicultural communication, conflict resolution, empowering environments, professional development, coaching & mentoring, and recruitment & selection. By developing these competencies, culturally competent professionals are able to respect differences, develop knowledge of different cultures and groups, communicate effectively with people from different backgrounds, and work to create environments that facilitate the success of a diverse range of individuals. The coaching process involves three primary elements: assessment, challenge and support. Through the assessment process, I provide my clients with both positive and constructive feedback. This is typically achieved through the 360° feedback process using one of my self-assessment inventories. Challenge involves creating situations that push clients beyond their comfort level to achieve higher levels of performance in areas such as cross-cultural communication, customer service and leadership. It includes offering different viewpoints, providing challenging developmental assignments, and serving as an effective role model by demonstrating effective performance in the areas being developed. Support refers to socioemotional encouragement that helps clients deal with any difficulties they may encounter.
